Foodie Friday: College Tailgating 101

I saw this really fun article on celebrations.com and knew I had to share it. My team's first game is Sat, September 4th and I cannot wait! I absolutely love college football season (if you haven't guessed from my gameday outfit posts). One of the biggest aspects of any college gameday experience is the tailgating! This is the perfect place to debut those fabulous gameday outfits, see friends/family, and of course eat lots of yummy tailgate food!

So here are the rules of tailgating, or College Tailgating 101 according to celebrations.com..

Rule#1 Pack for a full day of football fun: this means packing plenty of food, beverages and games/entertainment for an entire day of tailgating.Great game options are corn hole, ladder golf and any other fun games you can think of. Make sure you have plenty of tailgate chairs and I would suggest a tent (especially for really hot games).

Rule #2 The Early Bird Gets The Worm: Basically, the early tailgaters get the best spot. This is different at every school, at Clemson we have assigned parking (for all the good spaces) and then for those that don't have parking passes it is pretty much fist come first served. For tailgating spots it is best to plan ahead!!

Rule #3 Sharing Is Caring: Delegate responsibilities equally. Often times people tailgate with family, or several families tailgate together, so basically all the moms cook the food. But, it's always nice to offer to help or pitch in for napkins, etc. I'm sure they will say no because they are aware you are a poor college kid, but it is always polite to offer. It's also a good idea to have extra chairs, food etc. because you know that all sorts of random friends will be stopping by the tailgate i.e. tailgate hoppers/crashers.

Tailgating is all about fun and fellowship and getting ready for the big game! So whether you are snacking on sandwiches and fried chicken or watching a big screen all day... the point is to have fun!!

One of my favorite recipes to take to tailgate...

Ham Rolls

Ingredients:
2 sticks butter, softened
3 tbsp. poppy seeds
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
3 tbsp. mustard
3 pkgs. party rolls
Grated Swiss cheese
Sliced ham (each pkg. of rolls will need 3 pieces of the pre-packaged sandwich ham)

Directions:
Mix first 4 ingredients. Slice rolls lengthwise (like layer cake). Spread both sides with mixture. Put ham on bottom half and sprinkle with cheese. Wrap in foil. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. (It helps to cut before cooking.) Let cool slightly before slicing. Even if pre-cut, they will need slicing again.
